Hot Northbridge only on boot?

$

I run iStatistica in the background to monitor my fans and temps. The last 3 times booting, I got messages "Northbridge temp 109C" while things are loading up. That doesn't seem reasonable since the computer is no more than 20C when I press the power button. It only happens on boot and doesn't appear the rest of the day. Has anyone else seen this strange message?

Ok, so this is my first post here since Ive been working with these machines for quite some time and Im fairly knowledgeable with these kinds of things, but this time Ive hit a brick wall so any help would be great.

Recently got a Dual Quad 2.26 MP 4.1 with the intentions of maxing it on the cheap. Great condition machine in and out.

Process:
New SSD - High Sierra Install, all required firmware updates, 4.1 - 5.1
Radeon Pulse RX580 Installed - recognized fine, no real issues there

Introduction

Stumbling into an Amazon warehouse Deal, I picked up the HighPoint 7101a NVMe PCIe adapter, equipped with a MacPro friendly Broadcom 8747 PCIe bridge at a great price. While Highpoint's acknowledgement of MacPro compatibility was sketchy at best, I ordered one to go along with a recently acquired Samsung 970 Pro NVMe Boot drive.

Hello,

I recently acquired an old Mac Pro 1,1 and have been trying to update it to version 2,1 in order to facilitate better processors, but after trying nearly everything I can think of I am still unable to perform the update.

As I have done so much it will be neater if I post it in bullets:

Hello,

never considered a MacPro since I put my old and beloved DualG4 in a storage, thought of getting a Mini to host my photo archive and other stuff but saw a base (I suppose) 2013 MacPro for the like of 1.6K and thought to give it a spin, dunno how expandable, powerful and reliable it is and if worth these money, I wanna use my old CinemaDisplay HD 23" through an adapter be it the Mini or whatever else and make, as above said, LightRoom basic editing primarily and, if powerful enough,...

RX580 & GT120 & Mojave = stuck in boot

a buddy has a GT120 for boot screen and a RX580 in a CMP and the System hangs during the boot process. Safe Boot worked and fiddling with the kexts worked once.

Has someone more knowledge about getting those two together ? GT120 is just for the boot screen. So it wont hurt if there is no driver loaded when the System is up and running.

What PCIe Card to bridge between 5,1 to 7,1 Mac Pro?

Hey guys,

I am wanting to get a PCIe card to add either an NVMe or SSD drive to my 5,1 Mac Pro for audio project storage and use. Pro Tools mixing up to 128 tracks and medium to heavy Ableton Live VI usage. 1 TB would be fine for me, and will back up to external spinners.

I am planning to use this card in my current High Sierra 5,1 Mac Pro (2009 upped to 5,1 12 core 2.83 ghz) and also plan to use the card later with a 2019 Mac Pro.

Now, I am not sure what is the best option to choose, and...

Pulse RX 580 8GB or Pulse RX 590 8GB?

The Pulse RX 580 is a supported GPU, and the Pulse RX 590 also probably works in cMP from other reports of success that the Nitro RX 590 works.

So is it safe to go ahead and get the Pulse RX 590 and that future macOS support will follow if Apple continues to support the RX 580, or are there other hardware differences that might not guarantee this? Are there significant architectural differences between the two?

And I know the 590 inches...

Non-EFI GPU's? My BulletProof solution for boot screens.

I've been running non-EFI GPU's for a while now with a GT-120 also installed for boot screens. All was well until I decided to upgrade my Apple LCD Cinema display (2560 x 1440) to either a 5k or 4k display. First I tried a 5k Dell but had too many issues with it so I replaced it with a 4k Dell. It was during this process that I found many 4k or 5k displays can NOT display boot screens in either macOS or Windows. Even running an Apple EFI card will not produce a boot screen on my 4k display....

Boot into Mojave with RX-560 and (unconnected) HD5770

Has anyone been able to boot into Mojave with an MSI RX-560 (or any other metal video card) and also an HD 5770 installed in a Mac Pro (mine's 2010)? I just get black screens. I would like to know if its possible.

The 5770 isn't connected to any monitors. I just want it in the Mac Pro so I can hook it up to get the boot manager screen when needed later. I've tried switching the slot positions of the 560 and 5770 and that was no help.

Mojave works fine if I remove the 5770 board. Is there...

What are the options for 10GbE on Mac Pros?

I recently put together a Synology clone NAS and I'm considering getting 10GbE to maximize transfer speeds. Ideally, I'd like to use SPF+ connections (for cost reasons).

1. Are there any off the shelf 10GbE cards that works with Mac Pros?
2. Which commercial "made for Mac" work well on Mac Pros? I'm always very worried about potential issues with drivers. Historically, I've always tried to avoid installing 3rd party drivers whenever possible.

Thanks in advance.

I have a MP4,1 flashed to 5,1, dual 5680s, 64gb ram, 500gb 850 Evo on pcie sata III card, 1tb storage drive, usb 3.0 pcie card. Mojave. I removed my GTX Titan and installed a reference RX 580 to regain acceleration. The 580 shows up as a 480 and there are no drivers installed. Image is crap and only has options for two low resolutions. I placed the 580 in a PC and confirmed it was a 580 and working properly. reinstalled in MP and same issue.
I am not sure what the issue is here, any...

Is anyone using heatpipe for vrm in 2009 cMP?

Everyone knows our dusty machines vrm cooling section attached to cooling blocks. When we upgrade 2009 cMP's with 130W lidded CPUs, cooler height increase nearly ~2.2mm. After all, thermal pads should be used 4.5 or 5mm to avoid future overheat problems. Vrms forced extra and cooling solution inadequate.

The original thermal pad is silicon-based and very thin. Thermal conductivity is far better than 5mm fujipoly pads. I decided to buy 130x8x3mm copper heatpipe. So I'll glue heatpipe to...

Hello!

Just sow on Internet a new/revised LG UltraFine 5K Display and I was wondering which retina display could work with our classic MacPro.

Which 4K/5k Display is compatible with a vega 56?
Is it possible from a Thunderbolt / USB C cable to connect the screen to the DisplayPort and USB to the usb?

Thanks!

MSI RX 590 vs Gigabyte RX 590 on cMP 5,1

I thought I would post this comparison since there's very little info about the RX 590 in a classic MP 5,1.

If you are considering the Sapphire Pulse RX 580 for the cMP 5,1, you might want to look into the RX 590 as a newer and faster Polaris card. As of this writing the 590 is $30 more on Amazon.

I tested the MSI RX 590 ARMOR and the Gigabyte RX 590 Gaming cards. I kept the Gigabyte RX 590, and I will tell you why.

The RX 590 replaced a Vega FE air-cooled in my cMP 5,1. Vega FE's raw...

I am really trying to understand how these "pro-app" developers are going to utilize the Mac Pro 2019... more specifically, the work flow of (Mac Pro 2019 + MPX Modules + Afterburner + Metal + Pro-App Developers).

With a fully configured Mac Pro (w/ MPX Modules and Afterburner), how will a Pro-App developer get their work data into the Mac Pro and have the GPU configured to the MPX modules and Afterburner (through metal)? How exactly do all these components (Mac Pro 2019 + MPX...

Lightning strike damaging some TB ports?

$

Has anyone lost just some thunderbolt ports due to a next door lightning strike? The nMP and enclosures are on UPS and surge protection but it seems like some EMP leaked onto a few TB cables and fried half of the TB ports. Some work well, others appear to be dead. Make sense? I'll have to decide if I should repair them. I'm sure homeowners insurance will cover it, but I'll be paying the claim off for years with higher premiums. .

I currently have the 2013 MP it is

I am rocking the original OS 10.10.5 ( I am one to only update an OS when I am experiencing a given issue )

As I have grown more and more annoyed by well honestly lots of things I have very reluctantly made the decision to install Mojave.

I didn't really think this through it appears as I need to do an intermediate upgrade to 10.13 first??

This is problematic for many reasons. First my intent was...
