So I wanted to take a moment and signup to MacRumors and share some information with you guys. Like many of you and part of being a geek, I find my self reverse-engineering things just for pure curiosity.

Well, today I got in the mail and RX 580 8GB and it actually supports the EFI boot screen. (Boot options menu). Since I already owned an RX 580 that was very similar. I decided to dump the ROM and try flashing the other card with the bios. Unfortunately, this didn't work. So I decided to...

In short: I updated from High Sierra, to Mojave, and I can no longer boot from the separate SSD which I use for Windows. Only my main volume is bootable.

My Mac Pro's specifications are in my signature. (Note that I have no EFI card.) I'm thinking that this whole thing is a bug which [hopefully] will be worked out within the next few mini updates to Mojave.

Charming. Was having a look at Apple's site - just dreaming about the future. And what caught my eye was that I could trade-up a Mac for up to NZ$1400 off. Wow! Must check out what my cMP 4,1 > 5,1 (see my sig for my specs) might get me. And immediately had that sinking feeling. Apple will kindly recycle my cMP for free - i.e. it's worthless. Bloody mongrels!! (I have stronger words) I feel like crying. I honestly cannot see a day when my cMP will be worth nothing to anyone. Long live the...

Hay in the UK & we have a small heat wave, iv seen my PSU sensor 2 hit 67c+ at default settings.
After that iv set the PSU fan to keep the PSU sensor 2 under 50c but at 1400-2000RPM it’s a real pain.
2000RPM and still 49c on PSU sensor 2 !

So is it safe to let it get that hot?
Anything I can do to help keep it cool?

been around 28-32c ambient  normal temperature is closer to 16c, im just not used to the heat it's killing me.

GTX690 with Mojave

I have a GTX690 sitting in a drawer, and wonder if it would work with Mojave. I have modded the power supply in my MP5.1 to provide required PCIe GPU watts.
The board should be equivalent to two GTX680 (which is supported), so I wonder if anyone has tried it and can confirm it is fully supported.
If so, can someone point me to the right EFI firmware to flash for pre-boot config support ? Thanks in advance.

This thread is about how to mod the Sapphire PULSE RX580 8GB card's ROM image. If you worry about bricking the card, or void the warranty etc. STOP HERE!

For those who has MVC flashed RX580. Do NOT perform this mod. Any modification of the ROM will disable the Mac EFI UGA. And do NOT even try to flash the dumped (MVC) ROM back onto the card. Even this action may cause problem. As general rule, NEVER touch the MVC flashed ROM.

I compiled Jief_Machak's version of rEFInd, that should have support for initializing graphics cards that have a GOP rom on them. Pretty much any resent graphics card should work.

If you don't know what rEFInd is, it's basically a boot manager, Jief said he was not able to boot Windows, but I'm not sure if he had Windows installed via Bootcamp, i.e. CSM, or Bios comparability.

Seems if you have Windows installed via EFI/UEFI then this version of rEFInd should be able to boot it, but there...

In my never ending quest to get GOP boot screens working on the 4,1/5,1, I've had an odd day.

I won't go into all of it, however I have something new for 4,1/5,1 users to try. Clover in UEFI mode, installed to an HFS+ partition of a Master Boot Record disk.

First thing you need to do is make an MBR disk and add one HFS+ partition, can be USB or a SATA disk.

Next copy this folder to the root of the disk:

I just recently acquired a Mid-2010 Mac Pro 5,1, and it is now having a major issue. When I initially got it (a few hours ago), it worked perfectly fine. However, after letting it sit awhile unattended (while I was in another room flashing an AMD Radeon HD 5870 graphics card I got for it), I come back to find it in the state you see it in these pictures... The Power LED is on, and both CPUA and CPUB Overtemp LEDs are lit red. There is no other activity whatsoever, no fans spinning, hard...

Bokkow and I have created a Mac Pro CPU compatibility list. The intent is to cover all relevant and compatible CPU upgrades for all Mac Pros. These are asked about over and over and over again, so I thought it would be nice to have it all in one place.

Constructive criticism, corrections to errors, pointing out omissions, etc. are all welcome. My intent is, after the content matures, to turn this first post into a wiki so that...

I am a Spanish Youtuber and I have always used an Imac Late 2013 for everything. I'm thinking of buying a new one and I have doubts.

I usually edit video in 4k, do streaming. I mainly use Photoshop and FCPX. Playing I usually play on video game consoles.

My question is: Do I buy an Imac i9 2019? Although the GPU is not upgradeable. I feel like I can not update it since I bought it. Do you think that the Mac Pro is a better option in 12 years than two Imacs for the use that I am going to...

I'm not in a position to test this as I don't have the ram but I am really curious if this would work. I don't need this much ram I'm just curious.

With the ability to upgrade 4,1 and 5,1 cMP to use x5690 cpu's the amount of ram the CPU can handle is well over 250gb according to intel arc.

The 16gb 1333 ram sticks you can get for Mac pros are pc3-10600 ram. You can get 1333 speed pc3-10600 ram in 32gb modules.

Why would the Mac Pro 4,1 (when flashed to 5,1) and 5,1 models not recognise...

Hi, I will share some benchmarking done running the Radeon VII on my Mac Pro 5,1. It has the pixlas mod (PCIe power breakout cable from the PSU mobo-connector) done on it, so I have no power issues. I tested it with the Vega 10 driver, and the Vega 12 driver which resulted in freezes. The Vega 12 driver only activates 20 compute units, while the Vega 10 driver will utilise the full 60.

In short, one can add the card's ID 0x66AF1002 to the AMDRadeonX5000.kext’s Info.plist in macOS 10.14.4...

Hi,

Yesterday I did install my new Lycom DT-120 with its SM951 512GB (NVMe) M.2 PCIe.
I've to admit, it's fast! Moving from a SSD SATA II to a PCIe SSD it is a different world!

With the raise of the SSD it change my way of working but in the meantime the size of the files just boom!
After working/testing with a RAM disk to improve my way of working with all the pros and cons, I found the best of the two worlds! Secure and efficient!

Here is how i did proceed to install my card and the SSD...

Has anyone ever seen anything like this before?

At first I thought it was some components on the board that had failed and were leaking fluid, but looking a second time, it looks more like the residue came from the thermal pads (or the adhesive on them) on the heat sinks. At least the machine is still working fine. Unfortunately a dual CPU tray seems to cost about as much as an entire system.

Any ideas for cleaning? I thought maybe alcohol...

Help needed after updating to OS High Sierra

I'm running a 2009 Mac Pro tricked to thinking its a 5,1 with two Apple Cinema Display screens and just upgraded to High Sierra from El Capitan. I'm underwhelmed so far and may just go back to El Capitan.

Besides running a little warmer than before, I'm noticing artifacts on the boot up screen. I have a Mac Radeon 7950. Sometimes upon shutdown I see some artifacts on the black screen, sort of like blinking stars in the bottom left corner.

I did the typical SMC reset and P/V Ram reset. Can...

So I found something interesting-and fun, metal acceleration on both a GTX770 and RX580 and hardware acceleration as well as I know to test it in both Mojave 10.14.3 and Win10-just no display in Mojave via the RX580.

My NVIDIA GPU is a MVC flashed GTX 770 Founders Edition 2GB-and reports correctly as a 770 since I purchased in 2016 from eBay. Doubtful a MVC original-but the bios is locked reports as such; I got it from an east coast seller. Possible it was just re-sold to me though.

I fondly remember half year ago Intel disclosed that some of their chips that Apple used affected by some critical bugs. Apple released a patch for it but mentioned that performance would drop to roughly 25%. Although these bugs are hard to implement but still bugs are bugs.

My question is would the new Mac Pro with the new processors coming out in the Fall 2019 also affected by these bugs?

Thanks

Hi All,

I have a problem with a Mac Pro 3,1 Early 2008.

Every single time that I install El Capitan when the computer restarts after completing the installation process, the Mac Pro gets hung and the Apple logo bot screen cannot pass thru half way of the load. I have installed Lion all the way to Yosemite without problems, the problems are when I tried to install El Capitan.
I have reset the PRAM and SMC and that hasn't done the trick. Not sure what could be causing the problem.

My Mac...
