Mac Pro 1,1 piked running el capitan wifi problems

Hi This is my first post so forgive me if I am talking rubbish.

I have Mac Pro 1,1 that i successfully piked and it is happily running El Capitan (10.11).

I decided i wanted it to use wifi so i bought and installed a compatible airport card.

It was not instantly recognised by the system as i had hoped. I have spent hours looking for the ~/Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration folder but it does not exist and there are no airport plist files anywhere.

MSI RX 590 vs Gigabyte RX 590 on cMP 5,1

I thought I would post this comparison since there's very little info about the RX 590 in a classic MP 5,1.

If you are considering the Sapphire Pulse RX 580 for the cMP 5,1, you might want to look into the RX 590 as a newer and faster Polaris card. As of this writing the 590 is $30 more on Amazon.

I tested the MSI RX 590 ARMOR and the Gigabyte RX 590 Gaming cards. I kept the Gigabyte RX 590, and I will tell you why.

Windows 10 doesn't like my RX 580?

So I'm trying to run Windows 10 on my 4,1 --> 5,1. This Mac Pro is flashed to the latest everything so it can boot into Mojave. Strangest thing is happening though. I cannot get Windows 10 to boot with my MSI RX 580. If I drop in the GT120 (removing the 580), it works just fine. Put in the 580, I get the chime, but it does not boot. I'm doing all the usual things--no other drives installed, no USB drives attached, etc. It just doesn't like my 580. I even tried different ports on the 580 to...

thunder72fr made a post in the PULSE RX580 ROM study thread about that he can get HDMI audio working properly in Mojave with just Lilu.kext and AppleALC.kext installed.

I further tested it on my own cMP and confirmed it can work. And the process is simpler than HDMIAudio.kext + AppleHDA.kext patch.

Early 2008 MacPro won't start

Hi, I have an Early 2008 MacPro 3,1 with 2: 2.8Ghz Intel processors, 28Gb memory. I press the start button and hear a low click, seconds later, an even fainter click then nothing. No lights come on at the power button press. I have changed the battery on the logic board, removed the power supply and dusted it out, re-seated display card. I swapped out the display card with the original ATI 2600 and get the same problem. What should I check out next? This machine was working fine three days...

Netflix 4K on Mac Pro 5,1 (Bootcamp)

Well most of you may know this already, but it is news to me. Netflix app (or EDGE) in bootcamp is able to play in 4K with latest windows 10 and AMD Adrenalin driver. My 5,1 has a RX480 connect to LG 27DU88 via HDMI. No longer need to have Kaby Lake CPU. Another reason to keep your Mac Pro 5,1, LOL.

2009 Mac Pro doesn't power keyboard on from sleep

Hi guys,

I have a 2009 Mac Pro (5,1 firmware) which doesn't power on my USB keyboard from sleep. All the other USB devices get powered on. I reset the NVram which didn't seem to help.

If I restart, or physically reinsert the keyboard's USB plug the keyboard is recognized.
I've had this problem for a long time (I feel like a patch in 10.13 made this issue show up - or maybe the keyboard is aging).

Does anyone have some suggestions on how to fix this?

M.2 Disk with boot camp and timemachine trouble.

Hi, I recently upgraded my OS disk to a pcie m.2 disk and it´s working great, but I repurposed my old sata drive to be used with timemachine, now when I try to boot from windows back to osx it only sees the timemachine drive, not the m.2.
Boot camp was working fine before I started using timemachine, so in order to boot to osx the machine boots to recovery mode and from there I have to use startup disk tool to boot back into osx.

Do anyone know how to fix this, possibly hide the...

5,1 Sierra -> High Sierra worth it now?

I've been using Sierra still and had no plan to upgrade to High Sierra due to hearing a lot of compatibility issues (please correct me if those are now resolved), and even more so with Mojave (thus not even thinking about upgrading to Mojave although I would love the Dark Mode). I have a GTX1080 and have been using Nvidia drivers.

I just noticed today that the app that I use a lot no longer supports Sierra and now only supports from High Sierra.

AFAIK, the file system is different which...

With my Mac Pro 5,1 my sound settings are as follows:

*direct 3.5mm output to pc speakers (default sound out)
*HDMI out from GTX1080 card over to HDMI switcher, then Optical out to my soundbar

When I'm in Boot Camp Windows 10 mode, the OS detects my soundbar just fine and I can output the sound using HDMI, but with Sierra (planning to upgrade to High Sierra), all I see is just a) built-in Mac Pro internal speakers, b) audio line out (my current pc speakers) or c) built-in Mac Pro optical...

This is a general info thread for blade SSDs that can be used in the Mac Pro. This is a WikiPost so anyone with the proper credentials may edit it.

NVMe SSDs can be used as a boot drive in the Mac Pro 5,1 and 6,1 with the latest firmware installed (beginning with version 140.0.0.0.0 for MP5,1 and MP61.0120.B00 for MP6,1). The 7,1 should support booting from an NVMe SSD with external booting enabled (T2 chip). Note that blade SSDs installed in a Mac Pro 5,1 are limited to ~1,500 MB/s unless...

It seems AMD 3rd gen Ryzen is out performing Intel CPU in many ways. 3rd gen Threadripper is being preparing to announce in this year.

TB3 was the biggest issue since Ryzen is not able to use TB3. But now, it seems Intel gave their TB3 technology to USB and DP that everyone can use TB3 performance. DP 2.0 is twice faster than TB3 and it will be available in both original port and USB-C port which can be use for faster transfering datas.

So my question is... is it still not possible to use...

Slow External SSD Performance on Mac pro 5,1

Hi there
I have Samsung 860 QVO 2TB SSD + ICY box USB 3.1 enclosure witch I tested with other SSD's with my mac pro and it works fine
(Around 500MB/s read and 400Mb/s write)
and I have Sonnet PCIe USB 3.1 installed on my mac pro 5.1
unfortunately I have really low R/W speed with Samsung.
I don't know if there is a problem with my SSD or it is just compatibility issue with macOS and PCIe USB 3.1 chip

Again...

Mostly we know about 2016(hopefully) nMP 7,1 are personal assumptions and some "anonymous leaks".

Most rumors point to Introductions at WWDC with availability not earlier than Q4'16

  • Should be Based on Intel C612 Server or X99 Workstation/ProSumer Chipset.

  • GPUs x2 most leaks points to AMD GPU (Polaris and Vega) very few forum speculations still believe possible an nVidia based nMP.

  • Thunderbolt 3 upgrade it's a logical evolution, as USB-C and HDMI2.

  • CPUs...

Hot Northbridge only on boot?

I run iStatistica in the background to monitor my fans and temps. The last 3 times booting, I got messages "Northbridge temp 109C" while things are loading up. That doesn't seem reasonable since the computer is no more than 20C when I press the power button. It only happens on boot and doesn't appear the rest of the day. Has anyone else seen this strange message?

I currently have the 2013 MP it is
6 core 3.5, 64 gigs ( OWC mem )
Dual D700s
512 ssd

I am rocking the original OS 10.10.5 ( I am one to only update an OS when I am experiencing a given issue )

As I have grown more and more annoyed by well honestly lots of things I have very reluctantly made the decision to install Mojave.

I didn't really think this through it appears as I need to do an intermediate upgrade to 10.13 first??
