Sorry if I am wrong but I thought I have seen many times, you cannot boot to mac OS Utilities running Mojave and a Metal card. If I do command r on power on after 1m45s I get a apple logo and progress bar and boot right into OS Utilities.
Sorry if I am misunderstanding or getting confused here
MacPro Noob here.
Thanks

I was just curious about Bootcamp assistant, I fired it up and i got...

"Boot Camp Assistant cannot be used.
This Mac does not support Boot Camp."

Wait WHAT?!

Anyone else run into this?

I'm not in a position to test this as I don't have the ram but I am really curious if this would work. I don't need this much ram I'm just curious.

With the ability to upgrade 4,1 and 5,1 cMP to use x5690 cpu's the amount of ram the CPU can handle is well over 250gb according to intel arc.

The 16gb 1333 ram sticks you can get for Mac pros are pc3-10600 ram. You can get 1333 speed pc3-10600 ram in 32gb modules.

Why would the Mac Pro 4,1 (when flashed to 5,1) and 5,1 models not recognise...

Mid-2010 Mac Pro 5,1 Major Power Issue

I just recently acquired a Mid-2010 Mac Pro 5,1, and it is now having a major issue. When I initially got it (a few hours ago), it worked perfectly fine. However, after letting it sit awhile unattended (while I was in another room flashing an AMD Radeon HD 5870 graphics card I got for it), I come back to find it in the state you see it in these pictures... The Power LED is on, and both CPUA and CPUB Overtemp LEDs are lit red. There is no other activity whatsoever, no fans spinning, hard...

Upgrading CPU on 6,1 Mac Pro

I'm thinking about buying and then upgrading a 6,1 Mac Pro CPU.
I've built a ton of PC back in the day and also did a few 5,1 to hex cores. Is the 6,1 much harder ? Should I buy a quad core with a d500 or 6 core with a d300 and then upgrade. I've found 8 core processors on eBay for around 350-400
https://www.ebay.com/itm/122678696251

Would this one work ?
I don't do video editing so not sure if the d500 would work out better or not. I'm. Using refurbished and the price is a...

Note to mods: This is not iMac Pro intended, but Mac Pro early2009 to mid2012.

Since Apple is not releasing BootCamp for MP5,1 anymore and we are forced to use iMac Pro BootCamp drivers to have APFS support, I thought that a thread tracking iMac Pro BootCamp releases, with the direct link for the current one would be useful, so let's start one. Apple is frequently updating iMacPro1,1 BootCamp.

Best single or dual PCIe slot GPUs ?

I will soon be buying the Highpoint 71010A-1 PCIe adapter but my current Sapphire Dual-X 7970 is a 2.5 slot card so it cover slot 2.
My now dead HIS 7950 allowed access to most of slot 2 space.

I'm interested in buying a dual slot card that allows access to slot 2 for the Highpoint.

Any suggestions ?

Thanks in advance.

Hi All,

I have a Mac Pro 2012 and it seems to be powering down randomly, it will run for a few mins then shut down.

after power off, and try again you get it not making the boot stage and it clicks, powers off again.

Leave for a while and go back and you can get the mac to run fine for a few mins.

not sure if its power supply.. but i think it could be many things .. so the spec is below ...

I have an updated BTLE/WiFi card and extended the internal antenna. But BTLE range has always been poor on this computer. No problem with keyboards and Magic Pads, but Magic Mice seem to have issues.

In general, things have worked ok. But since 10.14.6 my Magic Mice connections have become really flaky. Has anybody else had this experience?

Just a word of caution to anyone using SATA SSDs via PCIe adapter - they have "disappeared" more frequently at startup and after brief periods of inactivity with 10.14.6 18G84 than all other previous Mojave builds.

Have occasionally ran into this issue with previous Mojave builds with Apricorn Velocity Duo X2 and they ALWAYS have shown again on shutdown then restart. The majority of the time they were still accessible in finder, but not always shown on desktop or via shortcuts....

MacPro 3,1 NVMe failed attempt!! :(

They said it couldn’t be done. Then someone did it. So I gave it a go with limited success.
Specs:

MacPro 3,1 High Sierra Patched and stable.
Bootrom hack with injected nvme.ffs driver.
Lycom DT-120 PCIe 4x (cheapo) adapter
Samsung 970 EVO PLUS 1Tb.

I was able to format it to APFS c/s and mount/copy data to it at 750mb/s R/w but crashes consistently with a IONVNeFamily.kext panic. /

Will Apple cave on the 7,1 release?

I'm wondering if anyone thinks Apple might take consumer reaction to heart and ADD a lower-priced 7,1 to the lineup before they do their possible September release? I realize they are a huge corporation with their own agenda, but there are a lot of Mac consumers out here who would welcome, well, almost anything reasonable.

Although I really am not fond of the idea of buying older computers, I am considering buying a 2013 trashcan to replace my Mac Pro 4,1-->5,1 (with upgraded dual...

Again...

Mostly we know about 2016(hopefully) nMP 7,1 are personal assumptions and some "anonymous leaks".

Most rumors point to Introductions at WWDC with availability not earlier than Q4'16

  • Should be Based on Intel C612 Server or X99 Workstation/ProSumer Chipset.

  • GPUs x2 most leaks points to AMD GPU (Polaris and Vega) very few forum speculations still believe possible an nVidia based nMP.

  • Thunderbolt 3 upgrade it's a logical evolution, as USB-C and HDMI2.

  • CPUs...

OK So ...

I was gifted a:
Mac Pro (Early 2009)
2.66 GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon
8GB DDR3

I flashed the BIOS from 4,1 to 5,1 without any issues and then I upgraded to macOS High Sierra (Version 10.13.6) Still no issues.

My new Graphics Card showed up: (Sapphire Pulse Radeon RX 580 8GB and the duel mini 6pin to 8pin power cable)

I installed the card turned it back on and no issues. Runs like a champ.

Now here is the issue: I tried to upgrade to Mojave on a different SSD It said it needed...

So I just picked up a Mac Pro on the weekend. I tested it prior to purchase with the ASD S3132 diagnostic. It passed everything EXCEPT the TNOD test, where it gave an error that the IOH sensor was above operating temp. Knowing this i purchased the unit at a reduced rate in hopes of fixing it.

So researching this it seems the Northbridge heatsink and thermal sensor is not properly seated. There is a small plastic clip that is supposed to hold down the Northbridge heatsink that is gone, so...
