My Mac Pro 5.1 keeps making my screen go black now and then (today it's happened 4-5 times already!).
It seems to happen regardless of which app I'm running, so I suspect either a hardware or OSX issue.
The screen seems OK: I've tried disconnecting/reconnecting it from the Mac (hoping to "reset" the connection) and also turned it off/on, but an on-screen message tells me it's not receiving any signal (even though the Mac Pro power LED is lit).
I've also tried to (briefly) press the computer's power button (to see if it'll go to sleep -I have this enabled in the "Energy" system preference), but nothing happens, so at that stage it seems the computer has locked up.
My only option then is to press and hold (for several seconds) the Mac Pro power switch, then turn it on again. After that all seems well, but as I said: now and then it acts up again.
I've done a safe boot, ran "Disk utility" to check the disk and repair permissions, but it still happens. Has anyone experienced anything similar or know what it could be?
I'm on a Mac Pro 5.1 (2.4 GHz quad core) with OSX 10.6.8, 24 GB RAM and multiple internal hard drives and SSDs. My graphic card is an ATI 5870.
