When I first bought my Mac Pro 4.1, I used it pretty much for only video editing. However, over the years, this big mac has taken on more and more of my household computer functions. Last month, the unthinkable happened, I started gaming on it...
It started innocently enough, I saw in the game section of the Forum that F1 2012 has been ported over to OS X, and I ended up buying it, figuring out how to use an Xbox 360 gamepad on my Mac, and loved it.
So over the weekend, I picked up a Logitech G25 wheel off Craigslist, and after downloading and installing the Logitech Ktext, the racing on my Mac has only gotten better.
Then yesterday I bought Grid for Mac. It may not be the simulator that F1 2012 is, but it is still very fun. This had lead me to a problem: My old GT 120 video card.
For the most part, it has managed to keep up with my racing fun, but yesterday while playing Grid, I noticed alot of tearing when things got very active. So now I am starting to wonder if it needs to be replaced with something with more horsepower.
The problem is my budget. I'd love to go out and put down $300 or $400 on a new GTX670, but I don't think MaMa would understand. So has anyone know of a PC card that will work (I don't boot much, so I won't miss the screen, and I'm running 10.8.3) that can be had for around $150?
I am looking at possibly getting a GeForce GTX 650 Ti, as they can be had at that price. The biggest downside I can see with this car is the fact that it is a 128b card. Does anyone have any experience with these cheaper cards in Mac Pros?
